Day 01 · Spain / Warsaw
Arrival and transfer.
Day 02 · Warsaw
The old town, flattened in 1944 and rebuilt from eighteenth-century paintings. The Royal Castle inside, and Lazienki park, where there is open-air Chopin on Sundays.
Day 03 · Warsaw / Poznan
The cathedral on Ostrów Tumski, the oldest in Poland, and the market square with its coloured houses and a town hall where two bronze goats appear at noon.
Day 04 · Poznan / Wroclaw
The Great Square with its Gothic town hall, the cathedral and the university. More than three hundred bronze dwarves are scattered around the city; finding them is a game.
Day 05 · Wroclaw / Auschwitz / Krakow
A guided visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau. You go in silence and come out in silence. On to Krakow.
Day 06 · Krakow
Wawel Hill with its Renaissance castle and the Gothic cathedral where the kings are buried. Then Kazimierz, the Jewish quarter, now full of life.
Day 07 · Krakow / Warsaw
A free morning. The Wieliczka salt mines, with chapels carved from salt a hundred metres down, are worth the detour. Back to Warsaw.
Day 08 · Warsaw / Spain
Flight home.
