Day 01 · Spain / Hanoi
Overnight flight.
Day 02 · Hanoi
Arrival and a first pass through the old quarter by cyclo, among motorbikes, pho stalls and colonial houses.
Day 03 · Hanoi
Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum and his teak house, the Tran Quoc pagoda on the lake, and the Temple of Literature, the country’s first university, from 1070.
Day 04 · Hanoi / Halong Bay
A full day sailing among limestone islands. Lunch and dinner on board, and at dusk the silence is absolute.
Day 05 · Halong Bay / Hanoi / Hue
The end of the cruise, the But Thap pagoda on the way, and the flight to Hue.
Day 06 · Hue
The Imperial Citadel, a boat up the Perfume river to the Thien Mu pagoda, and the emperors’ tombs hidden among pines.
Day 07 · Hue / Danang / Hoi An
The Marble Mountains with their shrines inside caves, and into Hoi An at dusk.
Day 08 · Hoi An
The old town on foot: the Japanese bridge, the Chinese merchant houses, and the tailors who will make you a suit in twenty-four hours. A boat on the Thu Bon.
Day 09 · Hoi An / Danang / Ho Chi Minh City
Flight south. Notre Dame, the Central Post Office built by Eiffel, and the Cholon Chinese quarter.
Day 10 · Ho Chi Minh City
A free day. The Cu Chi tunnels are sobering; the Mekong delta, with its floating markets, is the other good option.
Day 11 · Ho Chi Minh City / Spain
Flight home.
Day 12 · Spain
Arrival.
