Days 01 and 02 · Spain / Auckland
Flight via a European city. A night and a day on board.
Day 03 · Auckland
Arrival in the City of Sails, surrounded by fifty volcanic cones.
Day 04 · Auckland
The museum with the largest Maori and Polynesian collection in the world, the Parnell quarter, Mission Bay and the Sky Tower. In the afternoon, the west coast and the gannet colonies at Muriwai.
Day 05 · Auckland / Matamata / Rotorua
Hobbiton, with its forty-four hobbit holes built to scale. In the afternoon, Te Puia in Rotorua: geysers, Maori culture and a hangi dinner cooked underground.
Day 06 · Rotorua / Christchurch / Lake Tekapo
The Waimangu thermal valley, the youngest in the world, created by an eruption in 1886. Flight to Christchurch and a farm on the Canterbury Plains.
Day 07 · Lake Tekapo / Wanaka
Tekapo and its turquoise water, coloured by glacial rock flour, then the alpine road to Wanaka. The scenic flights over Mount Cook leave from here.
Day 08 · Wanaka / Queenstown
Arrowtown, a gold rush village, and the Kawarau bridge, where bungee jumping was invented in 1988. Gondola up Bob’s Peak.
Day 09 · Queenstown / Milford Sound / Queenstown
A full day in Fiordland National Park. Sailing Milford Sound between twelve-hundred-metre walls with waterfalls dropping straight into the sea.
Day 10 · Queenstown / Franz Josef
A free morning and the road to the glaciers over the Haast Pass.
Day 11 · Franz Josef
A guided walk on the Fox Glacier, Lake Matheson — which mirrors Mount Cook when there is no wind — and the Franz Josef Glacier.
Day 12 · Franz Josef / Punakaiki
Hokitika and its Maori greenstone, and the Pancake Rocks, limestone stacked like pancakes with sea geysers between them.
Day 13 · Punakaiki / Kaikoura
The east coast with a stop at the Hanmer Springs thermal pools.
Day 14 · Kaikoura / Wellington
Sperm whale watching — they are here all year — and the ferry across the Cook Strait.
Day 15 · Wellington
The capital, the Te Papa Tongarewa museum and the cable car with views over the bay.
Days 16 and 17 · Wellington / Spain
Flight home via a European city. Arrival.
