Day by day
Day 01 · Spain / Dakar
Arrival in Dakar, on the westernmost point of the continent. Transfer and accommodation.
Day 02 · Dakar / Gorée Island / Dakar
The city and its markets in the morning. Then the ferry to Gorée and the House of Slaves, which you visit in silence and leave changed.
Day 03 · Dakar / Lake Retba / Saint-Louis
Lake Retba, genuinely pink when the sun is high, where salt is still cut by hand. On to Saint-Louis, a colonial town on an island in the Senegal river.
Day 04 · Saint-Louis / Djoudj / Saint-Louis
Djoudj park, the third largest bird reserve in the world. You go by pirogue among pelicans and flamingos in their thousands.
Day 05 · Saint-Louis / Lompoul
A horse-and-cart ride through Saint-Louis and out to the Lompoul desert, a small sea of orange dunes. You sleep in a tent, with silence and stars.
Day 06 · Lompoul / Saly
A stop at the baobab forest — trees that look as though they were drawn upside down. On to the coast.
Day 07 · Saly
A beach day. Nearby are the Bandia reserve, with giraffe and rhino, and the shell island at Joal.
Day 08 · Saly / Dakar / Spain
A free morning and the flight home.
Day 09 · Spain
Arrival.
