Argentina
Buenos Aires and Southern Patagonia
13 days
Argentine Patagonia is ice, wind and distance. The Perito Moreno advances two metres a day and calves in front of whoever is watching, the Fitz Roy is clouded over half the time, and Valdés has whales fifty metres off the beach between June and December. All of it is two thousand kilometres from Buenos Aires.
Day by day

Direct overnight flight.
Day 02 · Buenos Aires
San Telmo, Recoleta and Palermo. A late dinner, as they do.
Day 03 · Buenos Aires

Walkways facing the sixty-metre front and a boat along the southern face. You hear the collapses before you see them.

Three hours across the steppe. A small town at the foot of the Fitz Roy that exists purely for walking.
Day 07 · Laguna de los Tres
An eight-hour walk up to the lagoon below the Fitz Roy, with a hard final kilometre. A shorter alternative to Laguna Capri.
Day 08 · Ushuaia
Flight to the end of the continent. The Beagle Channel by boat, with sea lions and the lighthouse.
Day 09 · Tierra del Fuego
The national park, lenga forest, and the End of the World train if you want it. King crab for dinner.
Day 10 · Península Valdés
Flight north to Puerto Madryn. The afternoon in the reserve.
