Colombia has three mountain ranges, two oceans and a range of landscape that does not match its size. In ten days you go from a capital at two thousand six hundred metres to a walled city on the Caribbean and a valley where coffee grows on impossible slopes, and all three are an hour apart by air.

Day 01 · Spain / Bogotá
Direct flight.
Day 02 · Bogotá
La Candelaria, the Gold Museum with thirty thousand pre-Columbian pieces, and Monserrate at dusk.
Day 03 · Zipaquirá
The salt cathedral sits a hundred and eighty metres underground inside a working mine. A free afternoon in Usaquén.
Day 04 · Cartagena de Indias
Flight to the Caribbean. The walled city on foot as the sun drops, when the heat lifts and everyone comes out.
Day 05 · Cartagena
The walls, San Felipe and Getsemaní. The afternoon on the Rosario islands or the beach.
Day 06 · Santa Marta / Tayrona
Along the coast. Tayrona has jungle running down to the sand and granite boulders standing in the surf.
Day 07 · Minca
Up into the Sierra Nevada, which climbs from sea level to five thousand seven hundred metres in forty kilometres. Coffee and cacao farms, and birds everywhere.
Day 08 · Coffee region
Flight to Pereira or Armenia. A stay on a working coffee hacienda.
Day 09 · Cocora Valley
Sixty-metre wax palms, the national tree, in a green valley between mountains. In the afternoon, Salento and coffee from plant to cup.
Day 10 · Medellín
A short flight. Comuna 13 with a guide from the neighbourhood, the metrocable, and the city’s transformation told by someone who lived it.
Day 11 · Medellín / Spain
Flight home via Bogotá.
Day 12 · Spain
Arrival.
