Amalfi, Cilento and Paestum

The Amalfi coast fills up from June to September and people barely spread out beyond it. Fifty kilometres further south, in the Cilento, you get comparable cliffs, Greek temples better preserved than those in Greece, and a quarter of the traffic.
Day by day
Day 01 · Naples
Arrival. Pizza for dinner in the old town, where it was invented and where it still costs six euros.
Day 02 · Naples
The Archaeological Museum, which holds everything that came out of Pompeii, and underground Naples. The afternoon in the Rione Sanità.
Day 03 · Pompeii / Sorrento
Pompeii with an archaeologist, three hours, entering by the gate with the shorter queue. Transfer to Sorrento in the afternoon.
Day 04 · Capri
A private boat from Sorrento, around the island by sea, and time in Anacapri, which is the part you can actually walk.
Day 05 · Amalfi Coast
Positano, Amalfi and Ravello along the corniche. You do it east to west and early, to stay ahead of the coaches.
Day 06 · Path of the Gods
The walk from Bomerano to Nocelle, seven kilometres suspended above the sea, ending with fifteen hundred steps down into Positano.
Day 07 · Paestum
Three Doric temples from the fifth century BC standing on a plain, better preserved than almost anything in Greece, and a museum holding the paintings from the Tomb of the Diver.
Day 08 · Cilento
Palinuro, the caves and the coves of the national park. Buffalo mozzarella and lunch at a masseria.
Day 09 · Cilento / Naples
Back with a stop at Castellabate and the flight home.
